Romeo, a young peasant, is desperate to impress his new sweetheart Juliet, and deeply envious of the great princes Hamlet and Macbeth. When Romeo learns of a wicked plot, concocted by evil landowner Claudius, to oust the ailing King Lear and plant himself on the throne, he must race against time to save the princes, foil Claudius' plan and win the heart of Juliet. This fun, adventurous musical explores the essence of Shakespeare's most famous characters by transplanting them into one story where duels are the order of the day, where the townsfolk adore King Lear and resent evil landlord Claudius, and where Juliet has a wandering eye when she meets the gorgeous Prince Hamlet. For a cast of 10 Principals and flexible chorus, Tragedy can be performed by children (high school onwards) or adults to an audience of children/families. With a fun and bright musical score, this new family show is a must for amateur and school productions everywhere. |
